Turn Your Bathroom Into a Spa-Like Getaway

How should I customize? Let me count the ways…

Most bathrooms are sized and set up purely for functionality, but it is possible to create a peaceful oasis for you when you need it most. If you’re limited on space, you will have to get creative. However, if you have more than enough room in your master bath, there are a plethora of accents that you can impose to make your way to decompress.

Think relaxation of the senses

Touch

When you bathe, your sense of touch is being engaged, but there are additional things you can do to enhance the experience besides a bath bomb. No in-house masseuse for the lot of us, but we can purchase a hand massager, adjustable shower head, or freestanding soaking tub.

Sight

Set your sight on something that will take you away, whether it’s a soothing color of paint, a piece of art, or a photo. Create your own visible paradise, with no shrill or super bright colors; typically, blue and green hues draw out a more serene feel. But it really is a preference.

Lighting is also a way to set the mood or to create a more luxurious space. An option of lighting for when you want to slip into a high-class status or just fade into the background, having an option of level or type of light makes all the difference

Smell

Diffusers, incense, essential oils, candles, even fresh flowers – they all can add an element to your bathing experience with a complimentary scent that relaxes you specifically. It may seem like a minor thing, but our sense of smell can draw out peace in the moment and boost your mood or relieve your stresses.

Sound

Just like when you go to the spa for a day, you notice soothing music, a babbling brook, light nature sounds – not the disruptive day-to-day hums. Now, as much as we wish we lived at the spa, that is not realistic. So, you must do your best to block out screeches, construction, car horns, babies crying, and any other distraction to create your serene scene.

Taste

Fulfilling your taste buds can be a little tricky in the bathroom, but if you have a large enough space, you could create a small wine or coffee bar for your morning and evening routine. You could even store a few small chocolates or hard candies to enjoy during your bath time.

A few more additional ideas for your own space:

  • Heated floors
  • A soaking tub
  • Partitions
  • Door-less, walk in shower
  • Waterfall or other luxury shower heads
  • Entertainment: TV, iPad, or music
  • An adjacent dressing area
  • A fireplace
  • A steam shower or sauna
